Everybody Loves Rachel

We here at InStyle.com know our readers love Rachel Bilson, so when I was invited to interview the actress at a press junket to promote the DVD release of her action flick, Jumper, I, well, jumped at the chance. As it turns out, Bilson loves us as much as we love her. “Someone emailed me once when I was the Look of the Day and now I check out the site every day,” the actress said. I first met Bilson two years ago when she posed for our Toronto Film Festival portfolio. I remembered her as being so sweet–and so tiny that we had to have her stand on a box in order to fit she and her Last Kiss co-star, Zach Braff in the same frame! When we met this time, we covered lots of ground–talking about everything from how it feels to be a newly-minted action star to how she feels about being called a style icon.
Even though Bilson might come in a small package, she’s one tough cookie. “I grew up with older brothers, so I’m not new to those things,” she said about the challenges of shooting Jumper, in which she took risks to perform many of her own stunts. “I was really excited to get my feet wet.” After talking about the making of the movie, I got started on my laundry list of style questions, and Rachel fielded them like a true fashionista. When I asked her how it feels to be a trendsetter, she was a little taken aback. “I never think of it like that,” she said. “I just appreciate fashion so much and I love clothes.” On this day, Bilson wore a lovely purple frock from Zac Posen and we chatted about the CFDA Awards, which had taken place the night before. Since she was en route to N.Y.C. as the CFDAs were being handed out, Rachel didn’t get to go to the ceremony, but she’d already scoped out the fashions. “I thought Ashley Olsen looked great,” she said. “I love her style.” Soon Bilson’s fans will find it easier to emulate her signature style–she’s designed a collection for DKNY Jeans that will hit stores this fall. What are some of her favorite looks from the line ? “There’s a blazer with white piping that’s cool, and a tuxedo pant, and T-shirts with ties printed on them,” she said excitedly. “The pieces are really wearable, which I think is important because you can mix and match from the line.” While you wait for her design debut to land at a store near you, check out some of Bilson’s best looks in our Girl About Town gallery and pick up the Jumper DVD when it hits stores on June 10th.
